Elwyn Darden is in his fourth year of working at FCS. He teaches Math, History and Government.
Mr. Darden emphasizes the practical application of every lesson. He makes a point of correcting assignments before returning them. By offering corrections, Mr. Darden gives his students the opportunity to understand and learn from their mistakes.
A thorough understanding of mathematics is essential for success. Mr. Darden works with students to develop mastery of the subject. He reteaches longer lessons, rather than breaking them into parts, to saturate students’ minds with knowledge.
Mr. Darden has had many fulfilling experiences as a teacher. On one occasion, he says, “I could almost hear my Advanced Math students thinking. They had become serious, well-disciplined test takers, wasting little time or energy. It is a thrill to see the students apply themselves with such intensity.” He believes that every student can achieve this level of focus with time and proper guidance.
The Fairfax Christian School challenges students to reach their full potential. Last year three of our juniors completed AP Calculus, which is typically taken in the senior year of High School. Mr. Darden has been given the opportunity to teach these outstanding students a college-level course in Linear Algebra during their senior year. He is very proud of their accomplishment.
