Teacher Feature: Miss Rachael Sanders
Miss Rachael A. Sanders has taught at FCS since August 2012. She currently teaches Chemistry, Physical Science, Life Science, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Pre-Algebra, Business Math and Math 6. She has also taught Bible, Middle School Earth Science and ESL Science.
Her students have the opportunity to learn through practice and observation instead of simply reading from a textbook. In her science classes she uses labs, hands-on activities, presentations, projects, demonstrations and occasional dissections as tools for authentic learning. She encourages students to come up with creative ways of sharing their knowledge through activities such as plays, interviews, newspaper articles, storybooks and puppet shows. Her Middle School students use Juno, an online assessment tool, for classwork, tests and quizzes.
Miss Sanders enjoys watching her students’ development from the beginning of her class to the end. It amazes her to see her students light up as they grasp new concepts. She loves to pass on her enthusiasm for science to her students.
One of Miss Sanders’ favorite aspects of FCS is the integration of technology in the classroom. Using iPads as learning tools allows her to continuously find new ways to improve the quality and efficiency of her teaching.
Miss Sanders also appreciates the opportunity to be the assistant coach for girls’ soccer and basketball. Helping young athletes develop their skills is a rewarding experience for her.
